About the A.B.A

The Allied Beauty Association (ABA) is a registered not-for-profit Canadian organization that represents more than 90% of the Canadian professional beauty supply industry with respect to hair and nails. It is a trade association of manufacturers and distributors of professional beauty products and equipment for the use of beauty salons and spas.

The ABA was formed in 1934 and incorporated in 1957. From its original membership of three Canadian manufacturers and two distributors, it has since grown to include more than 265 corporate members.

The ABA’s mandate is to provide support for its members, monitor industry standards and encourage goodwill, mutual respect and understanding between its members, the public, governments and beauty professionals.

To achieve part of this mandate with respect to beauty professionals, each year the ABA coordinates trade shows in eight major Canadian cities. These shows bring together the majority of Canada’s professional beauty industry suppliers and are consequently, the largest and most attended beauty trade shows in Canada. The 2007 national annual attendance was more than 50,000.

For the Beauty Professional

As an additional draw for beauty professionals, the ABA provides a wide range of educational seminars featuring prominent speakers and educators from around the world. Between the ABA main stage presentations and classroom seminars, there is enough variety to satisfy even the most discerning beauty professional.

Most beauty industry insiders consider the ABA Shows to be the most important trade shows of the year. They deliver an international standard of education that would otherwise be unavailable to the average salon professional. In short, the ABA Shows provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills essential to staying abreast of change in the competitive and constantly evolving beauty industry. The ABA’s efforts ensure that beauty professionals who attend the shows take the most up-to-date products, trends and techniques back to their clientele.

Bitchin Kitchen at KOKO lounge

She’s young, funny and can cook up a storm in 3-inch cherry stiletto heels.

Food Network’s bad girl chef Nadia G. whips up the perfect blend of food and humor for any occasion. Her focus is on accessible haute cuisine, fresh organic ingredients, and a hands-on approach that will inspire hip audiences of all ages to Rock the Kitchen!

Trained at the culinary institute of Hard Wooden Spoon Whacks, Nadia G. grew up in a boisterous Italian family who never quite gave up the belief that Casalinga-style cuisine is the centre of the universe. “You don’t have to look far to taste some of the best food the world has to offer, I’d sic my grandmother on a 3-star Michelin chef any day.”

Nadia G was also an early pioneer of online skit comedy, and ran a boutique web 2.0 strategy/ design/ branding studio, but something was missing — the food. So she decided to have her cake… and design it, brand it, write it, produce it and eat it too. The rest is history. Nadia G. has been hailed as “The Julia Child of the Net generation”, and following Bitchin’ Kitchen’s runaway success across the web, a best-selling cookbook and awards for Favorite Mobile Series, Hottest Emerging Digital Brand in Canada and nomination for Brand of the Year in 2009, her brainchild has become the first-ever lifestyle brand to go from online to prime-time.
